King of the Mountains Training Camp

Join us for this club-style event, with three epic, quad busting days of riding to kick off your season! Preview nearly all of the Mulholland Challenge Climbs! 40 to 70 miles per day, with tons of climbing in and around the Santa Monica Mountains above beautiful Malibu. (Trust us – it’s enough miles for so early in the season… Especially with so much climbing!) Our absolutely superb routes will whip you into shape and get you fired up for the King of the Mountains Century Challenge!

We’ve put together super tough routes (with some alternates for fewer miles/less climbing) that will whip you into shape for the new year and get you ready to do your best on all three stages of the King of the Mountains Century Challenge! There are no junk miles whatsoever on the agenda. We’re going to explore many, many miles of highways and byways that no other organized bike event has ever visited.

The routes are very challenging. Since many of the climbs are long (4 to 9 miles), and some are very steep (14-16%) we suggest a minimum low gear of 39 x 27; but a 39 x 29 or 32, or even a triple crank, will be much appreciated on many of the climbs. Please note: What you’d use for a single day event is probably not enough for three straight days. You will fatigue from the accumulated miles. Also, please bring a good, sturdy set of wheels, as some of the roads are less than perfect. Light-weight, fancy wheels are really not appropriate for this type of Camp.

Note: Friday and Sunday rides begin at 9:00am-ish at the Sheraton Hotel in Agoura Hills, unless otherwise agreed upon. It’s pretty cold in the morning. Our experience is that it warms up by around 9:00am – so why start earlier? Saturday’s ride has an open start window between 9-9:30am.
