Join us for seven days of epic and challenging cycling! Based at the Goodnight Inn in Calabasas, California, we’ll ride about 50 to 80 miles per day, with tons of climbing, in and around the Santa Monica Mountains above beautiful Malibu. Preview or ride again all of the awesome roads of the Mulholland Double Century and Mulholland Challenge. Weve put together absolutely superb routes that will whip you into shape for the new year! There are no junk miles whatsoever on the agenda. Were going to explore many, many miles of highways and byways that no other organized bike event has ever visited. This will be fun and totally non-competitive!
Our routes are very challenging, averaging between 750 and 1,000 feet of climbing for every ten miles. Because most of the rides are so tough, riders can choose between two different routes each day - one long (60-110 miles), one medium (30-50). On long and medium routes, most of the climbs are gradual and not too steep. As many of the climbs are long (4 to 9 miles), and some are very steep (14-16%) we suggest a low gear of 39 x 27; but a 39 x 29 or 32, or better yet, a triple crank, will be much appreciated on many of the climbs. Please note: What you'd use for a single day event is probably not enough for a week long tour. You will fatigue from the accumulated miles. Also, please bring a good, sturdy set of wheels, as some of the roads are less than perfect. Light-weight, fancy wheels are really not appropriate for this type of Tour.
If you're into mountain biking and can bring two bikes, there are fabulous off road trails right here in our back yard! We've got some fun and challenging routes within riding distance - and there are tons more trails within a short drive. We're happy to get dirty with you too!
Note: All rides begin at 9:00am at the Good Nite Inn in Calabasas, unless otherwise agreed upon. It's pretty cold in the morning. Our experience is that it warms up by around 9:00am - so why start earlier? Most rides are unsupported, with locations of water marked on the route sheet. Rides longer than 70 miles will be semi-supported, meaning at least one simple SAG stop. There are places to stop and eat near the end of each ride, which will also be noted on the route sheets. Remember, we dont have that far to ride every day, so enjoy the scenery, kick back and get to know one another! Enjoy your vacation!
There's tons to do in the Southern California area - so bring along your non-cycling spouse or significant other. Enjoy shopping, fine restaurants, golf, surfing, horseback riding, and so much more. Disneyland, Six Flags, Universal Studios and Knott's Berry Farm are less than an hour away. Just a short drive to Beverly Hills, Malibu, Hollywood or Santa Monica! Enjoy an afternoon in Santa Barbara! The entertainment is endless!
This tour is available on-demand, all year round (provided we're not out of town for our other events)! If you and at least three friends desire a private tour of 4 to 7 days, we'll schedule something just for you! Contact the embassy to discuss dates and details.
