HEARTBREAK HUNDRED RIDE RESULTS
100 miles - 8,500 feet of climbing
Stage Three of the King of the Mountains Century Challenge
The weather was crazy for the 2008 Heartbreak Hundred! Instead of the usual HOT HOT HOT, it felt like the dead of winter - with temperatures ranging from the low 40s at altitude to the low 50s everywhere else. Add a bit of wind chill, and riders were glad to have leg warmers, arm warmers, vests and jackets. There was even snow up on the mountains from the storm the day before. But the cool whether was perfect for the long and often steep climbs - and riders turned in super fast times on this one-of-a-kind course! Congratulations to Kevin McNulty who not only set a new course record of 5 hours 12 minutes, but also took the overall win and set a new record in the 2008 King of the Mountains Century Challenge.
Congratulations to the 19 women, 122 men and 6 Heartbreak Double Century riders who rode Heartbreak to complete the third stage of the King of the Mountains Century Challenge! All 147 Official Finishers received a pair of the exclusive Planet Ultra 2008 King of the Mountains finisher socks, and earned the right to wear the awesome King of the Mountains Official Finisher jersey, vests and shorts. The top riders were awarded prizes donated by VDO Altimeter/Cyclometer, Hammer Nutrition and Detours. The support and enthusiasm for the King of the Mountains Century Challenge is incredible - and we thank all the riders and volunteers who made it great! Special thanks to our friends at Bicycle Johns who hosted a wonderful and delicious finish-line barbecue! (We purposefully ordered
each rider's "Place" without skipping numbers after there was a tie. Most riders
care more about where their time fell in the rankings of other times, as opposed
to what "Place" they took based on how races would place finishers. So please
don't email us to let us know we made a mistake.)
